Bhakti is not a material sentiment. It is a special manifestation of
Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s internal potency. The wonderful speciality of bhakti is that when it appears in the heart of a devotee, it has the power to melt the heart of the Supreme Lord, Śrī Kṛṣṇa. Furthermore, when this potency comes in contact with the devotee’s attitude of humility, bhakti begins to surge like a powerful tidal wave and becomes all the more beautiful.
dainya-sambandhena ca sādhikam ucchalitā bhavatīti
tatra tad-ādhikyam | (Bhakti Sandarbha, Anuccheda 180)
As long as we try to approach Śrī Kṛṣṇa with pride in our
material knowledge, wealth and status, Śrī Kṛṣṇa will remain
far away. But if we call out to Śrī Kṛṣṇa with a humble heart,
Śrī Kṛṣṇa will surely give us His darśana and immerse us in the
ocean of bliss.
